“So basically I stumbled upon a silent dance party, live music, and delicious food all within 30 minutes
of being outside, and in a 10 block radius of my house. Portland knows how to do summer." -Olivia

Contributing photographer, Olivia Ashton, hit the streets of NE Portland with some of her favorite Will products and her friend Sophie last month. We asked her about her hometown of Portland, OR and what inspires her to be a photographer.

What was your favorite part of this photoshoot?

Ah, definitely running around Portland chasing the sun with miss Sophie! We had been following each other on Instagram for a while, but this session was the first time that we met in person. She's incredible; kind, hardworking, compassionate, hilarious and effortlessly fashionable. Such a honey!

Did any funny things happen on the shoot?

Oh gosh! So many goofy little things happen during these shoots! Specifically at the food carts, there was a little 4 year old boy dressed as Batman that kept photo bombing us and then asking to see himself flying though the background of the shots. What a little legend!

How do you choose your locations?

I first chat with the client about the overall mood/vibe/feeling that we're looking to portray, and then start visualizing specific little scenes, colors, landscapes, lighting and outfits that will create that through imagery. I then start driving and carefully observing! Location scouting is one of my favorite aspects of photography, it helps me become more intimate with the area that I'm in. I love that about photography in general -- it's taught me to view the world in a different way. I'm more observant because of it.

What led you to become a photographer?

People. I've always been fascinated with the fact that we can't see ourselves. We gaze out upon the world from behind our own two eyes, but we cant flip that perspective, visually. Photography is a tool that allows me to show people themselves. It's an opportunity for them to meet themselves in a new way.

What's your favorite thing to do in Portland during the summer?

Walk!! There is SO much going on in this quirky city once the sun comes out. For example! Last night I went for a little evening stroll, and stumbled upon:

1. A silent disco happening at ‪Peninsula Park. To set the scene a little, there were probably 150 people dancing with big headphones on, but no audible music to the average on looker, amidst thousands of blooming rose bushes and golden sunset light streaming in and illuminating everyone groovin' -- I promptly joined the dance party of course!

2. TWO live bands performing, each on different street corners.

3. An evening farmers market with fresh berries, hand churned nut butters, and sweet, sweet humans.

So basically I stumbled upon a silent dance party, live music, and delicious food all within 30 minutes of being outside, and in a 10 block radius of my house. Portland knows how to do summer.

What's your go-to spot in Portland to hang out?

Sunset picnics with my babes at ‪Skidmore Bluffs is one of my top summertime rituals for sure.

What is your favorite Will product and why?

I am completely in loveeeeeee with the Siena Backpack. I have it in tan and it's my go-to. It perfectly compliments every outfit, is super light and comfy, and I feel like a badass wearing it.

We have a policy of 100% guarantee, what does quality mean to you?

It means that I can purchase your items worry-free, and that is freakin' PRICELESS! <3

Our lifetime guarantee is a warranty against defects in materials (leather and hardware such as snaps, zippers, buckles, rivets, etc.) and workmanship. Our leather, as with all natural materials, will occasionally have unique characteristics such as: small scars, creases and variations in the colors and are not considered defects. Validated warranty repairs are repaired or replaced at no charge.

Due to the nature of leather and vintage materials our warranty does not cover natural wear and tear from daily love. Worn edges or corners, natural fading and softening of materials is an expected occurrence.  We guarantee the foundation of our product will hold your belongings safely. We find that patches and natural wear are a part of the story that unfolds as your product grows with you. One of a kind, Vintage and Found product may need to be patched or stitch due to the nature of vintage material. We charge between $35 and $75 depending on natural wear and tear or can recommend a local cobbler to expedite repair.

Exclusions and Limitations include shoes, hats, furniture, watches, jewelry, clothing, home goods, vintage product and FINAL SALE merchandise.

Maintain your favorite leather pieces regularly to ensure soft and supple leather. Leather can be cleaned and restored with a regimen of leather care products designed to clean, condition and protect. Leather Care can help maintain your product longer. Please see our Leather Care page for more information. We recommend conditioning your leather at a minimum of every 6 months. Learn more about how to care for your leather.

If you are in a dryer (hot or cold) climate please condition your product as soon as it feels less supple, dull or faded. Vegetable tanned leather when conditioned should feel slightly oiled and look rich. Similar to the nature of skin it needs to be moisturized as soon as it feels dry. We charge $25 + shipping for conditioning or head to a store for onsite conditioning for Free and the full Will Leather Goods experience.

Product Care Information

We highly recommend using leather care treatment to maintain and preserve your leather products: Product Care

Our wax coated canvas is coated with paraffin which makes this water-resistant, but not waterproof. If your canvas product gets wet, we recommend you let it air dry thoroughly in a warm dry place. If at any time your canvas has scratches or marks, these can typically be reduced by using a hair dryer on medium heat to help the wax soften and absorb back into the canvas.

By purchasing products from Will Leather Goods you agree to the terms in our Lifetime Warranty. Will Leather Goods reserves to right to alter, edit or cancel our Lifetime Warranty without notice.

The general rule of thumb for our belts is to go up two sizes from your pants size. Please note that sizing may vary depending on the cut and brand of pants.

The monogram has existed since 350 B.C., but came into popularity as steam ships started to cross the Atlantic to help identify the trunks and luggage of the travelers. Today, the monogram remains a functional identifier, while also lending personal style to your leather goods.

Personalize your product or gift with monogramming in either our small serif font (1/4") or our large sans-serif font (1/2") shown above. We use traditional heat stamping to emboss into our vegetable tanned leather.
