Kente cloth has been made in Africa by tribes fro hundreds of years. Intended to be used for ceremonial garments, kente cloth is traditionally known as the “cloth of kings;” the wide-ranging colorations indicating royalty and rank amongst the social system. On a trip to the Ivory Coast, Will discovered about 50 panels of kente cloth, raging from 50-75 years in age. Bringing them home, he designed totes to remind us of the origins of weaving and the beauty of the African culture. Paired with Italian vegetable tanned leather from Tuscany, we have protected the kente cloth at all stress points; adding deerskin leather accents for beauty and softness. Each bag is inherently “one of a kind” based on the pattern and cutting of the Kente panel – creating unique of art to be discovered.
